What’s happening in the Puffin Nest?
This week, level 2 students worked diligently to finish turning their fairytale-adaptation writing into stop motion animations!
They were delighted to present them at our Celebrations of Learning event on Thursday evening. Wow! These kids are amazing! Thanks SO much to all the FGCS families and community members who visited our classroom to view these projects.
Here's how our stories came to life:
- Piggy Locks
- Cinders and Ella
- Jack and the Giant Hole
- Goodallocks and the 3 Chimps
- The 3 Little Soldiers and the Big Bad Tank
- Winterlocks and the 3 Penguins
- The 3 Little Sharks and the Big Bad Narwhal
- Astrolocks and the 3 Aliens
- Little Creative Puffin
- The Sushi Man
- The Donut Man
- Jack and the Magic Portal
- The Little Blue Dolphin
Our "Fairytale Adaptations" Writing Unit & Stop Motion Animations!
- We started our fairy tale writing unit by reading and listening to many original fairy tales. We saw that it’s all about Characters – Setting – Motivation – Trouble – and Resolution.
- We studied Modern Fairy Tale Adaptations to help us with writing our own. We looked closely at the changes that authors made and noticed that they usually made one big important change to improve the story.
- We drafted, revised and published our own adaptations of fairytales.
- We studied our stories, and used them to create a storyboard, characters, and backgrounds for filming the stop motion animations.
Our current class Read Aloud:
Where The Mountain Meets The Moon by Grace Lin. This story incorporates many Chinese folk tales told by the main character's father, which makes it a great fit with our focus on folktales & storytelling!
